Tom,
I agree with your "guess". I was thinking along those lines too.
On the other hand, I have no problems playing in "current" (or "near future") games. Maybe this is b/c I never served in the military. Nor do I have any close friends/family in the military. Or maybe I'm just a jerk. (I like to think that it's b/c I can differentiate between a game and reality...most of the times )
Anyway, while you don't play "modern" games...I see you have NO problems with ZOMBIE games! Hypocrite!

I think there is a degree of audience. Computer games, and first person shooters, appeal to a younger (read teenage/twenty something) audience. Maybe I'm being a bit elitist here, but maybe tabletop gamers, have a little more perspective, and react more viscerally to current conflicts. Honestly, I think there is a bit of detachment, of younger gamers, that you can just reset someone being killed.
Once, something moves into the past, your 15 year value, I think the its not real mentality gets easier for older gamers.
I put myself into the not really liking current conflicts crowd.
But thats just my opinion.

Hey all,
In the past, I have heard several historical miniature gamers express distaste for gaming very modern gamers saying that doing so is insensitive. In fact I've heard of a "15 year" rule. It hit me the other day though that computer gamers thrive on ultra-modern gaming simulations. Why should miniature wargaming be any different?
